Don't worry John!! We still love you!!
we're just checking out some of the new talent
six numbers, one more to dial
before I'm before you
I tried to call
been busy all night
gave up waiting at daylight
excuse me Mrs. Busybody
could you pencil me in when you can
though we both know that the worst part about it
is I would be free when you wanted me
if you wanted me
ohhhhh...
I am the man on the side
hoping you'll make up your mind
I am the one who will swallow his pride
life as the man on the side
one of the many
one of the few
to stand back and wait for you
excuse me Mrs. Busybody
could you pencil me in when you can
though we both know that the worst part about it
is I would be free when you wanted me
if you wanted me, if you wanted me
ohhhh...
I am the man on the side
hoping you'll make up your mind
I am the one who will swallow his pride
Life as the man on the side
Life as the man on the side
I fell in love with the dream that I built of you
playing the part of the queen
taking my own advice
I'm giving up tonight
good luck to you and the king
excuse me Mrs. Busybody
could you pencil me in
though we both know that the worst part about it
is I would be free when you wanted me
if you wanted me, if you wanted me
ohhhhh....
I am the man on the side
hoping you'll make up your mind
I am the one who will swallow his pride
life as the man
you know life as the man
living life as the man on the side |

Mayercraft Carrier 2: Even Craftier!
http://www.mayercraftcarrier.com/
The wait is finally over - introducing the Mayercraft Carrier 2: Even Craftier! John had so much fun this year, he's inviting a new group of artists, comedians, friends, and you to do it all over again.
For the first time in Sixthman history, we'll be sailing from the West Coast! Leaving from Long Beach, CA, on March 27th, 2009, and returning on March 31st, The Mayercraft Carrier 2 is destined to be the best floating party the Pacific has ever seen. In between the two days at sea - filled with music, contests, parties, theme nights, and good times - we'll be dropping anchor for a full day in beautiful Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Hold off on booking flights just yet, because we're working on something very special for the afternoon of the 26th. Stay tuned for more details.... _________________ Since Day One... |

Damn. Long Beach departure?
Need different quantum universe to make it to THAT departure dock.
Wonder if he'll sail from FL again in 2010?
Good scouting, Jersey! good to know.
I wonder what jogging attire he'l come up with for jogging on deck in the Pacific... the mind wanders. |

About The Music
It’s all about the music
It’s all that I care
to hear when the day is done
to sing when I have won
to listen to when I am weak
Music to lift you up
Music to help me sleep
Each note
Each melody
Each corresponding lyric
like scotch on the rocks
sipped to soothe the heat
This life would lack
sweetness after you
get what you desire
without music
Oh the music is not
only on the radio
Its the sound in the trees
organized collection of noise
against the human heart beat

May our muse flames continue to burn...
May our muse flames
continue to burn
as we strive to chronicle
each taking turns.

John Mayer is on the cover of Rolling Stone….. again…. (May 30) With some other great great musicians.
It’s a “Greatest guitar songs of all time” issue. Great stuff in there. Rollingstone.com has
links to all the songs, video from the cover shoot. Hey John " I WANT to hear THOSE NOTES BEND."
JM interview:
What drew you to the blues as a suburban teenager?
It's so fundamental in me that I have to imagine that it was just born into me. You either want to hear
those notes bend or you don't. When I heard Stevie Ray Vaughan, the grammar of it made perfect sense to me,
and I just instantly wanted to do that. He was my portal to Jimi Hendrix, Albert King, Albert Collins,
Freddie King, Buddy Guy. And I'm still on the same unbroken course as I was when I was 13.
What does the guitar mean to you now?
For me, it's my flotation device, because I now exist in this celebrity sort of world. But I don't feel like
anybody's been able to truly knock me off my legs, because I have a trade. You can't just
walk onstage and start playing guitar 'cause you thought it looked neat. With guitar, you get out
what you put in, and it's the ultimate shield for other people trying to fuckin' take away your heart and soul.
It's a completely exposed craft. There is no facade.
Do you worry that your pop hits overshadow your playing?
I understand how people would say, "I don't think he's pure at heart. I don't want him getting anywhere
near the same kind of circle as Buddy Guy." So it's a really weird sort of incestuous situation for me, because
if I wasn't me, I'd stand in front of me and say, "Prove it to me for the next 15 years, and maybe
I'll think about accepting you." Because everything else you can buy, man. But guitar is the stuff that
takes your life to figure out.
What are some of your favorite guitar moments?
One of my favorite guitar solos in the world is from Metallica's "Hero of the Day."
Clapton's got a bunch of songs where he's really playing blues but he's playing it
over these chordal changes, like "Old Love" and "Wonderful Tonight." It's not really about the solo — when
I hear Prince at the end of "Let's Go Crazy," I get it. But for me, it's more about the way the harmony
and the melodic movement of the chords support the guitar-playing. People respond to chords.
I mean, Jimi Hendrix was a songwriter.
What goes through your head when you're deep into a guitar solo?
You just get out of the way of yourself, and I've got a big self for me to get out of the way of.
I've had a few nights where I got so close to leaving the ground that I didn't know where it was going
and kind of got freaked out — close to feeling like my wheels were gonna come off. For me, it's like
finding the zipper on the back of my body and just coming out of it.
You're in constant pursuit of the perfect guitar tone.
How would you describe it?
There's so many clichés about this, which I hate, like "molten glass." But I want it to sound like a voice.
That's all. And you want that voice to speak back to you in a tone you don't expect — so it doesn't sound
exactly like you. You want to listen to what it's saying back to you.

Take all of your wasted honor.
Every little past frustration.
Take all of your so called problems,
Better put 'em in quotations.
Say what you need to say (x8)
Walkin' like a one man army,
Fightin' with the shadows in your head.
Livin' up the same old moment
Knowin' you'd be better off instead
If you could only...Say what you need to say (x8)
Have no fear for givin' in.
Have no fear for giving over.
You better know that in the end
It's better to say too much, than never to say what you need to say again.
Even if your hands are shaking,
And your faith is broken.
Even as the eyes are closin',
Do it with a heart wide open.
Say what you need to say (x7)
Say what you need to, Say what you need to...
Say what you need to say.

Summer is Here
Blog posted by John on 6/29
http://www.johnmayer.com/blog#2309
I'm laying in my London hotel room in one of my least favorite scenarios: the job is done today but the plane takes off tomorrow. The European tour was an absolute blast and I think I speak for the band and crew when I say that all sights are set firmly on the US tour and making it the best ever.
As a 30-year old with an eight-year mainstream professional music career, I couldn't be happier (and more thankful) to still have a gig. All I can think about when I'm on stage these days is how terrible it would feel to have learned how to make the most out of each and every show after the gig was up.
It's a funny time to be alive right now, in that I'm not quite sure we're celebrating like we should. I don't mean the "Hand me your keys, Dan!" celebrating. I mean the very innate act of celebration; human appreciation. Group reveling. A general sense of "This is my tribe and this is our fellowship." Like a concert.
I know I've written along these lines before, but do you know why it matters? Because someday you're going to be old, and things are going to change. Your body is going to turn on you. I already know where the L-5 and L-6 discs in my back are, because they're wearing down a little, and when I ask the doc how we lick this, he says "It is what it is. You're not 18 anymore." I have 3 gray hairs that I insist are "mutant clear hairs" but they're not. They're just gray. And right on time.
Chances are you won't get hit by that proverbial bus people always talk about when they're smoking a Lucky Strike and tipping back on their chair. Odds are also on your side (thank God) that you won't ever get the news from your doctor that you have only months left to live. But you know what he may very well tell you? That you need a new hip. Nobody ever says "live it up because someday you might need a new hip" but it's the truth. They don't say "Be good to one another because in time we'll all know a medical lab technician on a first name basis" but it happens every day.
My point is that whenever that someday comes, when I slide into the MRI scanner and the thing starts spinning up, spitting lasers and screaming into my ears, I may very well say to myself "I wish I had just one more of those summers."
Being a young man is kick-ass. Being a young man who knows that being a young man is kick-ass is what it's really all about. And as a musician, I'm finally learning to distinguish the notes that matter from the ones that don't. I'm also getting better at knowing those notes as a person, too. I'm excited to bring it all on stage, and even more excited to see you all out there.
Thank you for another one of those summers.
